What you are actually doing
You put in USDC for one token, and choose how many tokens the pool buys and for how long: a week, a month, 3 months or a year. This makes a public buyback at a fixed price (the payout divided by the pool size). Once it opens, anyone can sell the token into it. You are putting in the USDC that the pool pays sellers with, and you accept that it gets spent as people sell.
A buyback pool is USDC set aside to buy this token at one fixed price. While the pool is open, anyone can sell the token into it at that price, until the pool has bought its full size or its time is over. The market price can still go lower or higher.
What you get
- A floor for the token's holders while your pool is open: anyone can sell the token into it at its fixed price, up to the pool size, until the pool closes.
- Your pool is shown publicly on the Floors page, with its price, how many tokens it still buys, and until when.
- While the pool is open, your token can be picked for the hourly chains. Selling it there, together with other tokens, pays your pool's bonus on top of its price.
- Every token sold into your pool is burned.
- Everything your pool does not pay out comes back to you.
What it costs
- The platform fee (now 20%). It is taken when you make the pool and never returned.
- The USDC paid to sellers (the price, and in chains the bonus) is spent for good. The tokens they sell are burned: you never get them.
- Everything else comes back to you when the pool closes or has bought all its tokens: unsold payout, unused bonus and rounding leftovers.
Where your USDC is kept
- Your USDC is kept in your pool's own vault. The vault belongs to a program address that has no private key, controlled by the Solana program.
- USDC leaves the vault in only two ways: as payment to a seller whose tokens are burned, or back to you. The current code has no admin withdrawal instruction. The owner can upgrade the program and change the rules, including access to funds.
- Once you deposit, the USDC stays in the pool until its time is over or it has bought all its tokens. You cannot cancel the pool or take the USDC back earlier, not even before the pool opens.
- Once open, the pool buys until its time is over or it has bought all its tokens. Then one transaction, which anyone can send (you too), sends what is left back to you. It can only go to you.
Burning
Every token that traders sell into your pool is burned: destroyed, and gone from the supply for good.
Why would anyone do this?
Backing a token is not a way to earn money. You earn no interest. In the best case, you get the payout and the bonus back. The platform fee is never returned. Reasons people might still do it:
- You run or support a token, and want its holders to have a public buyback offer whose price and remaining capacity anyone can check.
- You want to fund a buyback with a set price and term. Under the current code you cannot cancel it. Sales can still stop if the pool sells out, the admin pauses the program, or transfers fail.
- You want to reduce the supply. Every token sold into your pool is burned for good.
- A community or a project treasury wants to give holders of a dying token a fair way out, with clear rules.
If none of these fit you, backing is probably not for you. Think of the payout and the bonus as money you are ready to spend.
With numbers
You put in $1,250 for a pool size of 100,000 tokens. The 20% fee ($250) goes to the platform at once; $125 is the chain bonus and $875 is the payout. Your pool's price is $0.00875 per token, and $0.00125 more in a chain. This is what comes back to you at the end, depending on how many tokens holders sell into your pool, and how:
| Tokens sold | Paid to sellers | Back to you |
|---|---|---|
| 0 (nobody sells) | $0 | $1,000 |
| 10,000, straight into the pool | $87.50 | $912.50 |
| 10,000, in chains | $100 | $900 |
| 100,000 (the whole pool), straight into the pool | $875 | $125 |
| 100,000 (the whole pool), in chains | $1,000 | $0 |
The fee is gone in every row. Every token gets the same price, so the more tokens are sold, the more is paid out. The bonus is paid only for tokens sold in chains, and any bonus not paid comes back to you.
Your price compared with the market price matters. If your price is higher than the market price, traders buy the token on the market and sell it into your pool first (arbitrage). These trades may affect the market price, but do not guarantee any price level. If your price is at or below the market price and nobody sells, you lose only the fee. The Create a pool page shows both cases.
Step by step
- 01
Choose a token, a pool size and a duration
One Solana token, by ticker or token address, whose mint and freeze authorities are revoked. Those two authorities are removed, but token risks remain. You choose the pool size: how many tokens the pool buys, any whole number from 1,000 up to the most the token's decimals allow: 18,446,744,073 for a token with 9 decimals, more for a token with fewer. And how long it buys: a week, a month, 3 months or a year. The price is the payout divided by the pool size, so the same deposit spread over more tokens pays less for each one.
- 02
Put in USDC
The 20% platform fee goes to the platform at once and is never returned. The 10% chain bonus and the 70% payout go into a vault controlled by a program address that has no private key. The current code allows seller payments and returns to you. The owner can upgrade it and change those rules. The smallest deposit is $125.
- 03
The pool opens
On the day you pick: any Monday, Wednesday or Friday at 12:00 UTC, from 72 hours after you make the pool up to a year ahead. Until then it is listed under “Opening soon” on the Floors page, and nobody can sell into it yet. It cannot be cancelled.
- 04
Holders sell into it
For the whole time it is open, anyone can sell the token into your pool at its fixed price, up to the pool size. Every token sold is burned in the same transaction. Every hour, your token may be picked for a chain. Selling it there, together with the chain's other tokens, pays your pool's bonus on top.
- 05
The end
When the time is over, or earlier if the pool has bought all its tokens, everything left goes back to you: unsold payout, unused bonus and rounding leftovers. This takes one transaction that anyone can send (you too), and it can only pay you. If nobody sold, you get everything back except the fee.
What you risk
- You can lose the payout and the bonus. In the worst case for you, holders sell the whole pool in chains, all of it is paid out, the tokens are burned, and nothing comes back to you.
- If your price is higher than the market price, traders will buy the token on the market and sell it into your pool (this is called arbitrage). This can happen soon after the pool opens, until the pool is sold out.
- You cannot cancel a pool, not even before it opens: it buys until its time is over or it has bought all its tokens.
- You earn no interest, and no return is promised. Backing funds purchases and burns. This description does not determine how the law classifies the activity.
- The contract is not audited yet. Bugs or an owner upgrade can cause loss. The admin can pause sales while the term continues. USDC can lose value or become non-transferable.
- The legal status of this is not clear yet, and it is different in each country. It is your job to check that it is legal where you live.
The fee, the chain bonus and the smallest payout are settings the admin can change; a pool keeps the split it was made with. Other rules in the current code include: the range of pool sizes, the four durations (7, 30, 90 or 365 days), the Monday/Wednesday/Friday 12:00 UTC opening time, picked 72 hours to a year ahead, and the hourly chains. The owner can upgrade the program and change these rules. The How it works page has the formulas and the default numbers.
Before you start
- You believe this token is worth supporting at the price you choose.
- You can lose all of the payout and the bonus, and still be fine.
- You understand that the price and the duration are fixed when you make the pool, and that you cannot cancel it or take your USDC back early.
- You understand that selling into your pool burns tokens for good, and that the USDC left comes back only when the pool closes or has bought all its tokens.
